Tell Logan that Lee says Hi and get well quick. Lee had his first cast put on at Scott & White on fishpond. Dr. Mark Hinds always has a second opinion on any breaks and they were not happy with the way it looked when they looked at the ex rays later that day so he called and set a appointment up the next day with Dr.Lane at Scott&White in Temple. He had the cast taken off and reset Lee's arm and had Carl to put on another cast. Lots of ex rays to make sure that everything was OK. I really liked this doctor. If you need anything give me a call. Thanks, Denise - as a mom we just want our boys to be okay, right? He had the cast taken off and reset Lee's arm and had Carl to put on another cast. Lots of ex rays to make sure that everything was OK. How I wish our doctor had been this good! When we went to the doctor last Thursday (1 week after the break), here's what Logan's arm looked like: All the doctor did was tell me it was a "little" out of line but it would be fine. He looked at this x-ray out of the room - he didn't show me this picture or I would have been ballistic then. Instead I trusted him and let him put the hard cast on Logan, but I still had doubts and my doubts got worse over the weekend. So when we got to Houston and I found out that if we had trusted Dr. Becker, Logan would have had a crooked arm that didn't have full rotation - I was p*&^ed! If you look at the before x-ray, its crooked up by the wrist as well as where the bones overlap. If Dr. Becker had told me the set that he did in the ER didn't work and we needed to reset Logan's arm - I would have greatly appreciated his honesty, instead of him telling me it's a "little" out of line. Now - here's what Logan's arm looks like: Logan was very scared and mad at me on Tuesday before the surgery -- he just wanted to go home and ignore it because he was so scared. But - Wednesday morning when they took off the bandages in the doctors office and he saw his straight arm - I got a hug and kiss and a Thank You Mom. He was so relieved that his arm was going to be straight. Glad Lee's near the end of his recovery. Logan should be riding again in 6 weeks according to the Houston ortho dr. He doesn't have on a cast - he has a removable brace thing that he has to leave on for 6 weeks, except for bathing. Maybe the weather will start being nice again on the weekends so we can all be out at the track! Brenda

Brenda, thank goodness for a woman's intuition. I know Logan must have been scared as any kid would be, but you might have saved a future full of problems. Tell him we all said to get well soon and hope to see you all at the track soon.

Sorry to hear that Logan broke his arm. I'm glad he's doing good. Mother's do have a way about knowing certain things. I bet it was hard putting him through the mental anguish of surgery but it will definitely pay off in the long run.
At least he's not in a cast that is past his elbow. Atrophy is painful.
Just remember that as a boy growing up your going to break bones or get stitches whether you ride a motorcycle or not.
Tell Logan that we wish him a speedy recovery and to drink lots of milk and eat some cheese.

I am so glad that you all got a second opinion after the ER. My mom is a nurse for Dr. Haynes, who is an orthopaedic surgeon, I too worked there for a while. I cannot stress enough how important it is to visit an orthopaedic surgeon or sports medicine Dr. everytime a bone is broken. The ER can only do so much, and has so much going on, that they tend to miss some stuff. Please, if anyone EVER breaks a bone, get a second opinion from a specialist!! Thank goodness you caught it in time! Hope the healing process is quick and painless!

I think that the Dr that set his arm in the ER and did the follow up visit WAS an Ortho Dr.. Most ER docs will call in a specialist if the bone is displaced...

Oh, I agree! When I had my accident, they called in a specialist, that's what they're suppose to do, but as you can see, something was missed. I was simply stating that it's always a good idea to go outside of the ER. You would be amazed at how many people are seen by a specialist right after it happens (like in the ER), and the bone is not set correctly. We saw A LOT at Dr. Haynes office. My prayers are with you Logan and family! It'll be no time and you'll be back!

I've always been one that wants to be fully informed - and I think I'm going to get pushier to get the information I need. When the ER doctor looked at the x-ray - he told me it would take surgery. Then he called the surgeon - who turned out to be Dr. Becker from Waco Orthopedic. He breezed in and said Naw - we can set that without surgery. I appreciated him trying that - because I really didn't want Logan to have surgery unnecessarily. I didn't have a problem with him until we did our follow up a week later - he didn't show me the x-rays, lied to me that the arm was a "little" out of line, and was going to leave Logan's arm crooked. I trusted him because - he's supposed to be the expert, right? No more - I don't trust -- show me the money!!!! I will get a second opinion on anything I don't feel right about! Logan's doing great! Hope to see everyone this weekend at the races!

Not yet unfortunately He's counting the days until March 20th - that's the official end of the 6 weeks and we get the x-ray to see if we get the green light to GO! (which unfortunately will be the Tuesday AFTER the Waco race for March!) He's itching to be out there racing you guys too - he wants to try out that 85! Maybe in April it will work out!
