We need to have a work day on the 20th of May. The weeds are starting to get out of hand. We also have an exposed water pipe in the pits. The PA system still isn't working but I'll try to get out there this week and figure out what the problem is.

That guy on the tractor is our club President, Jeff Gilbert. You will see him quite often out on the tractor doing something. He puts in more hours at the track than anybody I know. Yes, your weed eater would be most appreciated on work day. We need all the members we can to come out and help, the weeds and grass have really grown up out there. Also, work day doesn't always have to be the day before a race. If you are at the track and find a trash can dumped over and trash laying around, picking it up would be appreciated. Also, a weed eater could be used at any time out there. I know that when we are out there it is usually for fun, but maybe if we can maintain the place more than just one day a month it might be a little easier come the day before the races. Just a thought. We have a bunch of great members and hopefully we can work together and keep the place looking good.

Is the majority of the work done around the track instead of on the track itself? I will coome up early on Sat and ride until noon or so, then start helping out. Is that what most people do?

I will be at the track spraying weeds but those weeds need to be cut first. If they are sprayed before they are cut they dry out and create spears. I was thinking the track work would need to be done before weed spraying but this new track guy is so slow he is almost nonexistant. Before we get track work next time, we need to make sure who ever is doing the work realizes some sort of time limit.

I'm going to the track after lunch on Friday. I'll take my weedeater and see what I can get done sometime tomorrow afternoon. I weedeated the entire A track last year in about an hour so if I have that much time, I'll make that my goal again.
Is the starting gate still broken? Does anyone know what is needed to get it fixed? I have a little 110v wire welder I can take out there if some welding is needed.

The gates are still broken, Tony's brother isn't available this weekend so we have no tools to repair the gate. Besides a welder I think we might need a torch. Hopefully Tony will jump in here on this and let you know what is needed.
Mike Haynes spent two days at the track this week with a sicle cutting sunflowers. I got some shredding done and plan on more Saturday. I got 4 new speakers for the pa that we need to put up Saturday. I would like to erect a telephone pole in the infield section between the start and the bleachers and mount the speakers in an array. We will need a big auger to drill a hole in the ground that the pole will fit in. I'm sure that won't happen this weekend so the speakers will be put up just to get us by untill I can get the pole in.
The track needs some grooming. There is a slight chance we may have our new tractor by this weekend but I'm not holding my breath. Will probably have to shred in the morning then take the shredder off and mount the box blade on old blue. Of coarse we will need to water.
Mike dumped the trash barrels Monday but I don't know what other litter is on the property.
For those that haven't done a work day before, we typicaly clean the bathrooms, starting gates, prep the track, make sure everything is working. Basicaly clean the property and mow what needs mowing. Last thing on the agenda is to water the track which takes several hours with 2 water trucks. I usualy hit the track Friday night but I may not make it this weekend untill Saturday morning. I normally begin work at sun up Saturday morning and work till about 11 or midnight. That's been my excuse for sucking in my race for the last year and a half ;D

Although, I have not seen the gate that needs repairing, I believe it will take the same tools as did the left side gate repair. Torch, 110 welder, generator (extension cords are kinda useless), hammer, wrenches, file. On the repaired left gate, we cut out the broken part, and we welded about a foot of fence post (can be found near property front gate) over the existing pipe. Takes a little hammering, and a bad word, or two, but makes the gate much stronger. If someone can supply the things we need, I'll try to be there to help. Call me at 662-1351. Left side gate after repairs: I'm assuming this is the part of the gate that has broken, where the pieces of metal are oddly welded to the pipe:

I have a couple 220v welders, and a torch if it hasn't been stolen from my hanger that could be used. I also have a 110 to use so if that is more convenient let me know. If ya'll need any of these let me know, i would be more than happy to come out and help.

Billy has a welder, torch and a generator. We will be out there tonight for the boys to ride for the first time in 3 weeks. He will look at the gate tonight. He can also be there Saturday morning to help try to fix it -- maybe with all you guys working on it, we can get it fixed. Brenda

It sounds like you all have the gate repair under control. I will not worry about bringing the welder today. I have a torch also, but I do not have a generator to run the welder. I have 150' of 10 gauge extension cord, but, I'm not sure that will reach.
I'll just stick to what I do best - weedeating.
