She has been diagnosed with AML Lukemia. She is currently at Scott & White receiving treatment. They have already given her a round of chemo and are testing Lee to see if he is a match. We are all praying for her and her family. Please everyone keep them in your prayers.

Sandi spoke to Danny's late yesterday, at this point it looks like the cancer is not in her spine or brain, which is great news. They are starting Chemo and are looking into a bone marrow transplant. Sandi also spoke to Ashton, she was in good spirits and wanted to ride her horse.
We will be collecting donations at the race on Sunday and plan to do some type of benefit/fund rasier during the May two day race. In the mean time keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Ashton is 17 years old. We went to visit her at Scott & White last night. She was in good spirits, considering she had been hooked up to a dialysis machine for 5 hours. Her blood count was good after the treatment and we are hoping it stays that way. They should find out today or tomorrow if Lee is a match or not. She has a big journey ahead of her, but she is a very strong girl and believe she will beat this. Danny and Denise are doing pretty good considering all the decisions that are having to be made regarding her treatment. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.

It is 04/26/2010. After a four days of Life threatening decisions concerning subjects I was totally unqualified and unprepared to make, I left my Wife at the Hospital and went home. Since my wife has just started her new job at the VA and is the Primary Insurance carrier, she can not miss work. I will be staying during the week and she will be coming to the Hospital on days she can and on week ends. Ashton must have someone right at her side 24/7.
This all started as simple leg pain. Ashton was riding at the Horse Trainer's ranch just Monday training a new Horse. She had been to the Dr twice concerning the leg pain and it was written off as a pinched nerve. We went to a new Dr Tuesday and he listened to the Leg pain therory and we told him that I had been turned in to Child Prtotective Services for Ashton's bruises again. Ashton has always been easy to bruise. He felt of her Lympnodes and ordered an extensive array of Blood Tests. We left the office knowing she was a little Anemic.
The next day the Dr called and told me to rush Ashton to Scott and White in Temple where she had a room reserved in Intensive care. We had no clue what was wrong. We arrived and heard the news that Luekemia was suspectd and had to wait for the type. My hunting Buddy whose Son is in Cooks in Ft Worth with Blood Cancer as well, pleaded with me to take her to Ft Worth. Cooks specializes in Children's Cancer. I wrestled with this decision all night with the consideration of the rest of the Family running up and down the buisiest Interstates around traveling a 100 miles a day one way and the chance of losing two was too great. After getting my Buddy and Wife out of bed at 3:00 am to talk, I decided to leave Ashton in Temple.
The first two days were extremely tough. She had surgeries both days putting in ports with only one meal. She had multiple Blood transfusions and it took three cuts before a suitable location could be found for one port. Her pain on Friday was excrutiating. I listened to her literally scream. I found that the excercise from the Horse riding instead of increasing her leg pain, was actually masking it by increasing the blood flow. Once she was not riding the pain was unbearable.
We found that Ashton has AML (Acute Myloid Luekemia) which is the fastest most harsh that she could get.
Ashton was moved from Intensive Care Friday morning to a room that has its own Air Flow that is totally isolated from the rest of the Hosptal. To enter the room, you must wash your hands and enter a little sort of Sally Port, before going into the room.
Right now Ashton's biggest threat is some sort of infection. My Buddy's Son had a tooth infection which almost proved fatal. My Wife was there for the very first heavy Chemo treatments and it did not go well. Ashton had fluid on her lungs and at one point her Heart started beating erratic.
We got her Brother, Lee, (the Flea) to the Hospital to be tested for a possible match for a Bone Marrow transplant. Only a full Brother or Sister has a chance of matching and then it is only a 25% chance. Ashton has three half sisters but we were told that their chances of matching were like winning the lottery. Mom and Dad have virtually no chance of matching. Persons wishing to test for a possible donor must agree to go in a Computer Registry where they must agree to give Bone Marrow to anybody that they might match. I talked with several people who have been in the registry for many years with no match. The time for recovery for the Donor is from 2 weeks to a Month.
We found that Lee did pass the first test, which is the most important for a match. If he passes the second, Ashton's chances of survival is must better. We were told that Lee would have a tougher time giving the Bone Marrow because he is younger and does not weigh as much. We also found that Ashton does not have and cancer in her spinal fluids.
We found that the nearest place for the Transplant is Cooks in Ft Worth, so if everything goes right we will have two kids in Cooks in a couple months. Ashton must have approximately two months of Chemo before the transplant.
Last night Ashton was given a powerful drug to try and force her to drop some of the fluid. She was up every thirty minutes going to the bathroom in addition to throwing up.
The Nurses are preparing her now for another heavy dose of Chemo.
We are trying to prepare our house at this time for her possible return. Trophies seem to collect dust rapidly and are hard to clean. If the track is interested The Flea may want to donate a bunch back to the track. Jeff just let me know.
We are looking for a Sofa that is slick and can be disinfected easily. If anyone has one please let us know.
Right now we are doing OK except I have not seen my alone for a week and at this time I have no idea when that may happen. D Krumnow

Not sure what to say. I can say, I stayed in cooks for over a month when I was 9, they re-taught me how to walk. Cooks is a great place, hope they can help you as well as they did me.

Danny & Denise,
Words are so inadequate, but please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you! I know it is so difficult for a parent to see their child in pain - you just wish you could change places with them, but try to stay strong and know that lots of prayers are being said for you and your family.
