Zach went down hard today at the track, ended up in the ER at Providence with a broken arm. He gave us a real big scare, I'll share the story.
I'm on the way home from Copperas Cove when Danny calls and asks if I'm anywhere near the track. Of coarse my reply is "no, why?" He said he got gotten a call that there's a bike laying in the middle of the track with no one around. He was already on his way to check it out when I get a call from Jeanine and she's at the track, "there's a bike laying in the middle of the track and a truck and trailer stuck in the mud and no one around." By this time Danny pulls in. The numbers on the bike are T-6 or something like that so we don't recognize it. While Danny is running the plates I call Tony and he checks the posts on the forum and see that Zach is planning to ride today. From one of his posts I get a phone number and call but no answer. Fearing the worst I call EMS and asked if they've transported anyone and they haven't. Next on the agenda is to call the hospitals and they say they have no one by that name there. Just then Danny calls and says that they do have a Zach at providence and by this time I'm about 5 minutes from there so I stop in. I asked where Zach was and they told me he was in ER room 2 and pointed me the way. When I walked in I see a guy laying in the bed that looks like he'd been in a fight a baseball bat and lost. Blood caked in his nose, face all scratched up and a broken arm. He was however awake and in good spirits. I asked how he was and what happened and he said he was okay except for the broken arm but had no idea what happened. The only thing he recalls is that he had been at the track for about 20 minutes (by himself), went through the whoops and over the 1st tabletop, then hit the 2nd table afterwards, then woke up in his truck a couple of hours later. His truck was stuck in the mud so he called his friend to come get him. He arrived at Providence at 4:30pm and that's all he knows.
He said he was taking it easy around the track mainly just checking it out when it all happened. He seems to recall the bike launching off the 2nd tabletop and that's all he remembers. He said he knew better than to ride by himself and I tend to agree.
I'm glad it wasn't any worse than it is and wish him the best in a speedy recovery.
btw, we believe that someone may have been trying to take his bike, it was up in an area of the track no where near where he claims to have gone down and when the person that called Danny stopped there was a car full of young people heading toward the fence but jumped back in their car and quickly left when he stopped. Thanks to all of our members that look out for each other at the track. Also plan on taking someone with you when you go riding.
