Hello to everyone,
It’s been quite a week at the Kasberg house to say the least. Karson’s doing well. His arm and shoulder have some pain (imagine that). He’s handling it quite well though. The physical pain doesn’t bother him near as much as the mental aspect. We’ve been down this road before. He’s tough and we’ll all get through the next couple of months. Being 11 his pain and suffering is tied to the fact that he just wants to run, jump, ride bikes, swim and ride his motorcycle and he knows the pain will leave and he still won’t be able to do those things for a while. In the hospital he was feeling down one morning and didn’t understand why these things happen to him. We had a talk and I spoke about some of his friends at school. One of his friends has hobbies like reading, theater, singing etc. The friend is always smiling and joking. I explained that his friend will probably never break any bones or have injuries but, he will be happy. Karson and I talked about how he likes things that are physically challenging and with that type of lifestyle come injuries. Until that point, I had never asked him about motorcycles or riding again, I thought it should be a decision he makes when he was ready. I asked him to think through this question, would he rather have had a motorcycle for the last 16 months and have this injury, or would he rather of never had a motorcycle at all. His answer, ride and have this setback. It was the answer I had expected and I think the talk will help him get through this.
Now, to thank all the people that helped us out last weekend. I really don’t know where to begin. To Ron Sipes, this isn’t the first time you’ve been there for Karson. Thanks for jumping on the track so quickly and helping to keep him from getting run over. Also thanks for giving him immediate attention on the track before the medic came. Next thanks for helping me with Ronda, as a mom all she wanted was for her boy to be awake and talking. We spoke earlier this week and I asked her if she remembered you and me yelling at her to keep her calm and explaining that we couldn’t remove his helmet etc… luckily she didn’t. Ron, I couldn’t have a better friend.
Danny thanks for helping Ron and the medics. It was obvious you knew what you were doing. As I was running back and forth to the camper and cars I knew Karson was in good hands.
To Anthony and Amanda Woods, Tim and Lori Collier, Sandy Sipes, Denise Krumnow, Ross Stovall, and Tom Valenta Thank all of you for loading up the camper and helping on the track. Our family owes you our deepest gratitude. Anthony, thanks for bringing the camper to your home, don’t know what I would have done without you. We really don’t know what we would have done without all of you! If I have forgotten anyone someone please let me know.
To all the people on the track that were concerned for Karson you showed your true character and we couldn’t have made any better friends.
To Brad and Jacob Hensel, and their family, Alex Menegga, Lee and Denise, Curt, Curtis, Dillon and Tanya Stevens, Tom, Carla and Adam Valenta, Thank all of you for coming to check on Karson in the hospital, it meant a great deal to him as well as us.
Lastly to ALL of Karson’s friends at the track that day, as a father I sat back this week and thought about how all of you were concerned and how you all stayed at the track by his side. It meant a great deal to his mother and I. He has made great friends at Waco and I know he would do the same for all of you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you,
