Several WEMC members invaded Burleson MX this weekend. Brandon Parsons cleaned up in his classes but that story is for the next edition. This one is all about the Vet class.
It would be Mike Haynes, Scott Bagby, Gene Ficker, Don Miller, lost member Thomas Fomby and yours truly, Jeff Gilbert that lined the starting gate for the largest class of the day at BMX. It was pretty much business as usual for the WEMC Wrecking Crew as we moved from staging. At this point there was some serious gate prepping going on . Given the seriousness of today’s event and the fact that we were the out-of-towners, it only seemed fitting that we help one another out by lending a hand with each others gate prep. I helped Mike and of course Paula returned the favor. ;D
As the finger guy finished pointing it was time to put on our race faces. Apparently Mike didn’t get the message at the meeting because he took off with the rest of them when the gate dropped. Scott, Gene, Don & myself waited patiently to give the others a much-needed head start. Gene even did some freestyle before leaving the gate. When Mike got to the first turn and realized that we weren’t with him as we normally are, he got off his bike and waited. Now that the local boys had a chance against the WEMC Wrecking Crew, the race was on. Again it was Mike that didn’t get the message at the meeting so he got off and waited two more times during the race. Somebody needs to take notes for him.
As the race progressed it was obvious that the locals had nothing for us. A few times I found Scott adding sections to the track ;)just to make it fair. I on the other hand take my racing serious and was there to take names. After a few laps at my more than normal blazing speeds I found myself having to slow down at the finish line just to be scored. I could hear the comments from the ladies in the booth yelling “who is that blur that just went by?”
In summary I’d have to say it was a good day of racing for the WEMC Crew while gracing BMX with our presence Good for everyone except Scott, he got so caught up in giving the locals a chance that he got lost on the track and forgot his way. You know how he is!
Guys, let’s hear you take on the race today. I’m sure Gene will jump in here to give his perspective on the WEMC Wrecking Crew at BMX on 3-13-05
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I’d like to thank KTM, Wells Cargo Trailers, Ford, Coors Lite, The Muppets, my third grade teacher and of course my Dunlops for really hookin up today.
