As most of you know our Waco Eagles Membership has grown in excess of 300 now. This is a lot of members. Our track is getting a lot of use from the large amount of members. Right now we need to do some maintenance. The problem is that a large portion of our club money comes from races. Our Race attendance is terrible. We had 54 entries last race and in 2002 we hit close to 100 every race. What this means is that very soon our Officers are going to have to make some hard finacial decisions.
1. We can let the track go just a little since most of the riders are for recreation. This will further hurt our race entries.
2. We can raise race entry fees. This again will most likely hurt our race attendance.
3. We can raise our Membership rates. This raise would have to be substantial to make up for the lack of race proceeds. Just one race has racers spending more money than the yearly membership fee.
4. We can encourage more race attendance. This is a big question right now. How do we do this? I have suggested a combination of all the above. I think Membership dues should be increased maybe even doubled, with a Racer discount. If you attend X number of races you get a reduced Membership fee. Of course this involves verification and someone must verify this. This would encourage more members to race our track. There are a lot of Waco Eagles members that simply use our track to practice and race at other tracks. Last summer I took the Flea to other tracks because our track was in such bad shape myself.
Our Waco Eagles Meeting is tomorrow at Poppa Rollas Pizza in Waco at 7:00 PM. I encourage everyone to attend. I did get some clarification from Glenn on Memberships. Glenn is not allowing the Motorcycle shops to sign up members right now. This is due to our large membership. Glenn did tell me that he is not going to cap the Membership. Glenn stated that any new Members will be required to attend the Waco Eagles Meeting to get a Membership. Glenn stated (And I agree with this statement) that anyone who is not interested enough in the club to at least attend a meeting, would probably not make a good new member anyway.
Folks most of our members are recreational riders now. This is a big change from when I joined several years ago. Back just a few years ago almost every member raced at some time are another. Issues have changed. I strongly urge every member to attend the meetings. This will be the last meeting before the racing season gets in full swing.
