I have a 12 year old daughter that wants to begin racing like her older brother. The only problem I am having is finding the regs on what size bike she needs to be on. Some people say she can ride a 65 but then others say it will have to be an 85. Can someone please give me some clarification? Thanks a million.

Classes are 65 10-12
85 7-11 85 12-15
At Waco we seldom have enough riders in 65 10-12 to make a class. At 12 a 85 will most likely fit her best.
The 85 age classes are very fast.

OR.... She would be a perfect canidate for the mini-begginer class. She could ride anything under a 150cc in that class

That 150 will get you a lot of headaches when it comes time for racing...Just ask Curt!! How about a 2005 YZ 85...now that would be a great bike for her...Oh, did I mention I had one for sale. ;D Actually, if she hasn't ridden much, the 65 and 85 are probably to much bike for her. I would suggest a 4 stroke for a beginner. A TTR, DRZ, or XR would be a great starter bike. Tim

dear sir,
if my memory serves me correctly, ladies classes are open. which means you can ride any size bike in this class. unless of course, the track you want to race at has different rules in place already.
for instance, at loretta lynn's amateur national ashley fiolek rides a cr85 against 125s and 250fs. and usually does really well against the bigger/older girls. i believe she is 13 or 14. and i should mention that she's deaf. she definitely is a modern day hero and someone all people should look up to. she flat out rips!!!!
rick denney #500 ( my new number starting next week when i get my new honda 250f.) p.s. if you're interested i give lessons for $30.00/ hr i've been around motocross for about 32 years. 254-855-1479

No Haters just that Honda tried to dominate a 85 class by building a bike that was not legal in the Minis. Honda knew full well, as well as the people that bought them, that they were not legal in the 85 class. I guess we could make a new class for the 150f and allow 125 2 strokes in this class. At least their displacement would not be twice as much. Next year may be different rules but if 150s are allowed in the 85s you can kiss all the 85s goodbye.

Honda was not trying to dominate, they already did that. The 150 is slightly ahead of it's time. Yamaha did it once. 426. Once upon a time: 450's were not legal in the now outdated 250 class. 250's were not legal in the now outdated 125 class. 150's were released a little early for rules changes. Will probably be legal soon. Then, the 150 owners won't waste their time kissing the slow 85's goodbye. In racing, nothing stays the same, everything changes, or fades away.

I dont know, at Burly a couple of weeks ago there was quite a few 150f's. This is one place they allow the 150's to run in the 85 class. However in all three class, the 2-smoker's smoked them. I do think it is inevitable that the 2 strokes will go to the waste side. However, for those who can make a 2-stroke sing, they are still hard to beat! I wish I still had the stamina to keep a 2-stroke screaming, they sure are a ton easier to maintain and cheaper to repair!

If the Flea had been sponsored by Honda and he was riding a 150 I bet the crying would be much louder. I know he would dominate most of the 85 classes. I also bet that the 150 would be toast by now. I would love to have my kid on a good reliable 4 stroke but the Honda 150 is proving to be a money pit just like the 250s with broken cams and valves. The quickest way to kill the sport is to make it unaffordable. Next year the rules may change and we may be on a 150 until then I have spent all the posts I am going to give on 150s. If you want to run the 85 class get an 85 don't try to sneak in a bike that is not legal and has twice the displacement. Broken Cam off CRF 150 with a totally nonaggressive rider Ama has also proposed that 250f will no longer be allowed in the 125 class. Talk about a lot of crying going on imagine if that happens.

Maybe I am wrong but I think all of the talk about the 150 came up when one lucky kid was able to get one. One can only hope that you guys do as much bickering on sites for other tracks as you do on here. From what I have seen and heard there is one member at Waco Eagles that has this particular bike. Keep in mind when you are in the pits or out in public talking about someone else or their child you never know who may overhear you that knows the person the conversation is about.
It is sad to know how many people talk down about a child, it has been overheard on more than one occasion. I have heard numerous memebers and seen post from members that say the family thing and children having fun is what this is all about. Imagine what it does to a child to hear people talking about you for things you have no control over.
Be Happy for the children that are able to have a bike (any bike), enjoy the bike and be part of a rare experience! Don't worry about things you can not control!
Curt, you should have bought each of the boys a 150
